The open membrane database: Synthesis–structure–performance relationships of reverse osmosis membranes

Since the advent of thin-film composite polyamide membranes brought forth a breakthrough in desalination and water purification nearly half century ago, recent years have only witnessed marginal improvements water-salt selectivity these membranes. The slow progression is partly attributable to limited understanding membrane synthesis–structure–performance relationships. A centralized archive reverse osmosis (RO) characterization data may lead shared features that maximize RO performance unify research efforts. Open Membrane Database (OMD), which can be found at www.openmembranedatabase.org , growing database over 600 are sourced from peer-reviewed journals, patents, commercial product data. Here, we outline detailed functionality database, transport theory underlying calculations, best practices for testing reporting. user-sourced, open-access used benchmark novel against state art, conduct meta-analyses, develop relationships, each will critical advancing development. • Open-access User-sourcing transparent sharing experimental results. Dynamic environment comparisons analyses under uniform reporting conditions. Optimal platform developing databases other commonly separation technologies.
